The August 26, 2014, general election in Clay County featured three seats up for election. Only the District 3 race was decided in the general election. Challenger Betsy Condon defeated incumbent Tina Bullock to win the seat.

The general election determined if candidates for each seat could garner a majority of the vote total. Because no candidate received 50 percent plus one of the general election votes in Districts 1 and 5, the top two vote recipients advanced to the runoff election on November 4, 2014.

Janice Kerekes faced a challenge from Kenny Leigh and Amber Harmony Shepherd in District 1. Kerekes and Leigh advanced to the runoff election. Sandra Dunnavant, Ashley Gilhousen and Brian Graham ran to replace Lisa Graham, who did not file for re-election in District 5. Gilhousen and Dunnavant advanced to the runoff election to fill the open seat.

Campaign themes

2014

Dunnavant's campaign website listed the following themes for the 2014 race:

Having been a resident of Clay County since 1966, I have long worked for positive change in the school system as a teacher, media specialist, community activist and parent of two Clay High School graduates. My family and I feel that the time has come for me to seek elected office.

I want to bring fresh ideas and positive solutions to the Clay County School System by running for the District Five School Board seat. I am concerned about the challenges that the School Board faces in educating our children and in supporting teachers and staff. Reducing drop-out, equipping students with the skills they need to find employment after high school in an ever changing economy, and looking for ways to meet the financial challenges of educating our children without increasing taxes are important issues to me. I believe that there are workable solutions to all of the challenges that the School Board faces.

I want to work with all the stakeholders(students, teachers, administrators, business, religious leaders, taxpayers)to ensure that the Clay County School System become the "jewel" in the crown of Northeast Florida.
