Three of the five seats on the Riverside Unified School District Board of Education were up for general election on November 3, 2015. The election was held by district.[3][4] Incumbents Patricia Lock Dawson, Gayle Cloud and Tom Hunt from Trustee Areas 2, 3 and 4, respectively, were up for re-election.[5][6]

In Trustee Area 2, Dawson defeated challenger Sandra Ramirez. Cloud did not file to run for re-election to the Trustee Area 3 seat, leaving it open to a newcomer. Angelov Farooq ran unopposed and won that seat. Hunt defeated challenger Tad Hove in the Trustee Area 4 race.[1][2]

Campaign themes

2015

Ramirez highlighted the following issues on her campaign website:

QUALITY EDUCATION FOR ALL STUDENTS

Every student deserves the opportunity to access engaging and challenging curriculum. Each campus should have strong STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) programs. Elementary school students deserve math tutoring on every campus.

COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT
Student success depends on more than just the students and the teachers. Parents, businesses and community members must be involved in the decision making that effects our children in order to best prepare them for their futures.

LEADERSHIP
Sandy is committed to keeping politics out of decision-making. Our students need what is best for their education and future, not what best serves the political ambitions of the decision makers.[9]
