Primary: She was defeated in the primary on August 26, 2014, receiving 23.3 percent of the vote. She competed against Jerri L. Collins and Alex Finch.

Rivera earned her undergraduate degree from Salem College in 1999 and her J.D. degree from Florida State University in 2001.[3]
