Shealey filed to run in the by-district general election on October 24, 2017. However, the election was canceled due to lack of opposition. Shealey was automatically elected to the seat at the passing of the election date.

One of the nine seats on the Aiken County Public School District school board in South Carolina was up for by-district special election on October 24, 2017. Sandra Shealey was the only candidate who filed for the seat. Due to the lack of opposition, the election was canceled and Shealey was automatically elected to the seat. The special election for District 1 was triggered after former board member Ronnie West resigned in May 2017.[1]
