One of the five seats on the Citrus County Schools Board of Education was up for by-district general election on November 8, 2016. Three newcomers filed for the open District 4 seat: Sandy Counts, Kevin Maloney, and Bill Murray. Counts and Murray advanced to the general election because neither candidate received more than 50 percent of the vote during the primary election on August 30, 2016. Counts won the general election. The District 2 seat was originally set to be on the primary ballot, but incumbent Ginger Bryant was unopposed in her bid for re-election and was automatically re-elected when the filing deadline passed.[1]
