|I have 30 years public service working for the State of California in mostly social programs. CalLearn (teen pregnancy and parenting program) Department of Social Services, California Conservation Corp, Domestic Violence Program - Office of Emergency Services, CalWorks - Department of Social Services. I also served as the Recorder/Treasurer - City of Horseshoe Bend, Horseshoe Bend, AR.
I am running for the Senate because Arkansans need choices! They need someone that will represent their best interests in the Capitol. There needs to be transparency in government; Government needs to be held accountable for their decisions. Women should have the right to make decisions when it comes to their own bodies, safety from gun violence, there needs to be access to a good education, healthcare, a living wage, and no child should ever have to go to bed hungry!- I am prochoice. I believe that women should be in control of what happens to their bodies. No person should be able to tell another woman that she cannot have an abortion. That choice is between a woman, her health care provider, partner or spouse. It is a deeply personal decision. No woman should EVER have to leave her home state to get the medical attention she needs nor seeks. Government has no right to tell a woman about her health care choices.
- I believe that every state should have a Red Flag Law. No child needs to fear going to school because of lack of gun safety. Not one of us should EVER fear going to church, the mall or any type of large gathering place for the same reasons. But most of all our children should NEVER have to practice drills on how to be safe should a shooter enter the school.
We need to all work TOGETHER to bring a solution to this problem. It isn't about taking guns away it is about being more responsible citizens TOGETHER. I know, as I am a survivor of a workplace shooting.
- Education - It is our responsibility to see that EVERY child has access to a safe and stable learning enviornment. They need to be taught all history, not a sanitized history. They need access to all books not just ones the government seem to think appropriate. Our children need access to computers to help with school work and the rural areas don't/aren't equipped. More needs to be done to help families that can't afford tablets and computers get them. Basically, the LEARNS Act gives incentives to private entities to take over the public education for schools/districts through vouchers and financial incentives for transformation of campuses. This is unacceptable.
I am also extremely passionate about seeing a Red Flag Law being brought about in every state in the union. It is vital to every person's safety and especially to the safety of our children.
Attention to detail.
Ability to care about those around me.
