|In Salem I have acted as the secretary of Downtown Salem Partnership for the past 5 years. In that time DSP founded Salem Second Saturday including FreedFest, Celebrate Burchfield, pARTy!, Superhero Saturday which has drawn celebrity guests John Wesley Shipp and Dean Cain. We also worked with Sourballpython and the Tourism Advisory Board to create a well received map and guide to the Downtown in both print and digital format. This project has successfully captured new business into the Downtown and made navigating parking and entertainment easier for Salem visitors. Supporting the needs of the downtown business and building owners has been a passion of mine. I believe that a healthy and vibrant downtown are at the heart of a successful community. A bright, safe and welcoming downtown provides opportunities for new business owners and established locations to thrive. It supports local culture through dining, entertainment, music and theatre, providing another generation with wonderful small town experiences and memories here in Salem. In order to make these things possible it has been important to work closely with City Hall, City Council, SOD Center, Salem Parks and Recreation Dept, and DSP membership all while listening closely to the ever changing needs of the many downtown business owners. If elected I would continue to listen to the needs of my neighbors in Ward 1 and support healthy, common sense management of the Salem community.
- Why are you seeking office? I am running for election to Ward 1, Salem City Council because I believe I can serve my neighbors well. I believe that it is a rare and hard won privilege to hold public office in the United States of America. I believe that it is important to get involved, be informed, promote the common good and respect and promote public service today and for the next generation.
- I would appreciate your support on Nov. 7. My proven and dedicated track record of community service over the past 5 years is an indication of my capabilities as a local leader. Election to City Council would allow me to represent the residents of Ward 1 in a way that I believe they haven’t been under the recent administration. I would bring my common sense, collaborative spirit and “get it done “ attitude to the job. Thank you for your support.
- If you love the community where you live, work and play it is important to get involved in local leadership.
In order to preserve Salem and its quaint small town way of life it is important to invest in the education of our youth, provide an environment that is welcoming to new business and ensure quality housing and infrastructure to those who choose th call Salem home.
I believe I am a thorough listener. In my various community activities is important to understand local resources and to match those to the needs of citizens and stakeholders. I have the ability to link local needs with existing solutions.
I would like to set the example of collaborative, high road leadership. It is a personal goal to inspire others to serve in public office, share their talents through local volunteerism and to grow local economies through innovative entrepreneurial startups.
