Candidate Connection

Sara Bitter participated in Ballotpedia's candidate survey on April 1, 2018. The survey questions appear in bold, and Sara Bitter's responses follow below.[3]

What would be your top three priorities, if elected?

1) Creating a Disabilities, Mental Health, Addiction Caucus

2) Making Public Education strong
3) Workforce training and better job opportunities[4][5]

What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about? Why?

I have two children with developmental disabilities and I have been an advocate for people with disabilities for much of my career. I want to work for people with disabilities, their caretakers and the broader community of people with mental health conditions or addiction issues to invest in programs that provide a support system and opportunities for success.Cite error: Invalid <ref> tag; invalid names, e.g. too many[5]

Ballotpedia also asked the candidate a series of optional questions. Sara Bitter answered the following:

What characteristics or principles are most important for an elected official?

To be an elected official, I think you have to first be a good listener. I've spent much of my career listening so that I can carefully craft solutions to systemic problems.[5]
What was your very first job? How long did you have it?
My first job out of college was in the West Wing of the White House. I learned a great deal about politics working in the Counsel’s Office as the Assistant to Special Counsel to the President.[5]
What do you perceive to be your state's greatest challenges over the next decade?
I think that the time is now to invest in our public education system which is being particularly threatened as public funds are being diverted to for-profit charter schools.[5]
