Candidate Connection

Sara Dady participated in Ballotpedia's candidate survey on February 26, 2018. The survey questions appear in bold, and Sara Dady's responses follow below.[1]

What would be your top three priorities, if elected?

1) Economic Development

2) Universal Health Care
3) Workers Rights[2][3]

What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about? Why?

As an immigration attorney, my passion is welcoming people to the country I love best. Everyone should have the opportunity to succeed regardless of what they look like, where they come from or how much money they have. The American Dream is as simple as doing a job you take pride in and being able to support yourself and your family.Cite error: Invalid <ref> tag; invalid names, e.g. too many[3]

Ballotpedia also asked the candidate a series of optional questions. Sara Dady answered the following:

What characteristics or principles are most important for an elected official?

An elected official must be accessible to her/his constituents. An effective representative meets regularly with people, listens and keeps her/his word to work for the district's best interests.[3]
What qualities do you possess that you believe would make you a successful officeholder?
As an immigration attorney, I have helped over 4,000 individuals and families navigate the tangled maze of U.S. immigration laws, regulations and policies under three presidential administrations. My career has given me a wide base of knowledge including federal tax law, criminal law, family law, trade and labor laws. I chose to build my law practice, raise my children and volunteer my time in Rockford because I love my hometown and want to see everyone here succeed. We need representation that is accessible, active and accountable.[3]
What do you believe are the core responsibilities for someone elected to this office?
The core responsibilities of a representative is to be an advocate for constituents who are having a problem with a federal agency, to be able to cut through red tape and provide answers, a representative is also a conduit for information from local to federal and federal to local. We need elected officials from local, to state, to federal working together to identify opportunities for economic growth and investments for our District.[3]
What is something that has been a struggle in your life?
My mother died of a preventable illness had she only had access to medical care. My mother was uninsured which was the barrier to her ability to get an MRI that could have saved her life. In the United States of America, no one should ever lose a loved one because they do not have access to medical care.[3]
