Expanding Public Education I will fight to increase teacher starting salary to $60,000, protect and improve teacher retirement and healthcare, invest in smaller class sizes, reduce state testing, take serious steps in reducing the school to prison pipeline, and increase funding for K-12 counseling. Saving Our Environment I will champion for a Green New Deal vision at the state-level. We will bring high-paying green jobs to build renewable-energy infrastructure while moving away from oil fields and coal plants, ensuring that clean air, clean water and healthy food are basic human rights. Healthcare Securing healthcare for all Texans, supporting community and public health centers, and ensuring long-term health care for the elderly and differently-abled. Sara will fight to protect, promote and expand healthcare for all Texans! Reproductive Health People have personal and religious beliefs about abortion, and I’m not asking anyone to change their beliefs. My stance is in reference to legal access to a medical procedure that allows families to determine their own futures. The decision to have an abortion is deeply personal and one of the most important decisions a person can face. An attempted abortion late enough into a pregnancy to result in a live birth is extremely rare and happens only when the mother’s life is at risk or the fetus has a fatal condition. Equal Pay In an average lifetime, an educated male will make $2.1 million. Compare that to a female‘s lifetime earninga of $1.4 million, and it’s clear that there is something wrong with our system. Sara will fight to ensure equal pay for equal work. Pro Immigration I will fight to end the expansion of immigration detention centers, firmly oppose the border wall, will push back on talking points about "border security" and advocate to demilitarize our U.S.-M.X. border. Expanded Maternity and Paternity Leave Around the world, new parents are given up to 16 months of paid maternity and paternity leave. In Texas, parents are given 12 weeks before needing to put their newborns into daycare, which is a cruel injustice to both parents. Sara will see to it that this time is increased, leading to tighter family bonds and happier and healthier children and parents. LGBTQ+ Rights We must advocate for equal rights for the LGBTQ+ community! Sara will end discrimination in the workplace, financial institutions, housing institutions and public spaces. Raising Worker’s Wages Minimum wage has not budged in 11 years: It was raised from $6.55 to $7.25 in 2009. Meanwhile, cost of living increases YEARLY: rent, groceries, medication and household staples continue to skyrocket in price and make daily life a challenge for Texans everywhere. Sara will fight for increased wages and give new meaning to “making a living”.[2] |
