I've lived in Louisville for over a decade, Shelby Park for the last three years. I'm a registered Landscape Architect with over twenty years career experience, from designing parks and courthouse squares to playgrounds. Passionate about nature, conservation of natural resources, and a lover of native plants, I'm also a Jefferson County Master Gardener, and serve on the Louisville Metro Tree Advisory Board. I enjoy living in Shelby Park with my two dogs, teaching classes or workshops on native landscaping and rain harvesting, and guiding hikes with friends while pointing out different plants ad nauseum.
  • An advantage over some of the other candidates is my proven experience. I have four years of working hard for the Soil and Water Conservation District, two of which I was elected Chair of the Board by my fellow Supervisors. I've taught workshops on Rain Barrels, Native Plants, and backyard conservation, spoke in front of Metro Council and Metro Council Committees on behalf of the Conservation District. I've worked to evolve the Conservation District's programs to benefit constituents' needs that I've seen and discussed. With experience in traditional agricultural as well as urban agriculture experience, I'm able to communicate with all different constituents on a variety of conservation topics.
  • I'm committed to sustainability and creating partnerships across Louisville-Jefferson County to improve the conservation of our natural resources and preservation of the few green spaces we have left. In my career I make a point to act as a steward of the land, speaking out against harmful development practices and encouraging conservation practices in all aspects of construction and maintenance of land. I was driven to find a way to serve the community after being a part of the development community and seeing the lack of respect our land and natural resources gets from developers in Jefferson County. I'm thankful I found the Conservation District as it utilizes my career experience and passion for caring for the land.
  • I've served four years as a Supervisor and I feel like I'm just getting started. If re-elected I hope to continue my work in evolving the Conservation District's programs and outreach to assist all Jefferson County residents in the conservation of our natural resources and improving the resilience of our food systems through agriculture. I look forward to developing more partnerships with Louisville Metro, non-profits, community groups, and others to assist in alleviating Louisville's food deserts, improving our resiliency to the environmental impacts of climate change (I'm not afraid to say it's real), and empowering residents to utilize their own properties for community improvement and sustainability.
I'm passionate about smart growth, low impact development where developers mindful develop the land to ways that limit the degradation and destruction of streams, existing trees, and the soil. I've seen too many streams piped and covered up, knowing that what is being constructed is going to create more stormwater run-off than those pipes can carry. Jefferson County's streams and creeks all have damage from developments piping stormwater down the stream; from severe erosion to inundating water water treatment plants. Smart development is the only sustainable development; and sustainable development is the only way to improve Jefferson County's sustainability and health now and in the future.
Integrity, upholding a strong moral and ethical standard, being honest and transparent and trustworthy in all actions and decisions. I was elected by the residents of Jefferson County and I never forget who I serve in this office.
Core responsibilities for Supervisors with the Soil and Water Conservation District are laid out in the Supervisor Handbook. A few that stand out to me are developing and implementing programs to promote the conservation and use of natural resources, providing educational programs for students and adults in conservation and land stewardship, communicating to local government officials and the general public on the Conservation Districts accomplishments and programs, and communicating with our constituents to see what the community's needs are and how the Conservation District can better meet the County's needs.
I'm not really concerned with leaving a legacy attached to my name. I just want to make a positive impact in my community and help the land I live on be healthier and better than how I found it. I would love to assist the Louisville-Jefferson County community improve our regional food system, develop new agricultural producers from Floyds Fork to Shawnee, and improve the status of our natural resources, waterways, soil, and tree canopy.
I have over twenty years experience in Landscape Architecture (it's not landscaping), my experience with best management practices in design and construction have served me well in my understanding of conservation practices promoted by Conservation Districts across the United States. My knowledge of native plants, landscape design, and stormwater management, developed throughout my career, has also assisted me in carrying out Conservation District work and has given me the opportunity to lead workshops and speaking engagements with the community.
