I have two young children in the district; one in first grade and one at the Hilliard Preschool. I am running for school board because I have a vested interest in ensuring our schools remain academically excellent and fiscally responsible for years to come for ALL of our students. When my husband and I moved to Hilliard eight years ago, the largest deciding factor was the quality of the schools and the amazing sense of community here in the Hilliard City School District. If elected to the school board, I will make decisions based only on the best interest of the children in our district, focusing on education, safety and their general well-being. I’ve been involved in the HCSD in many ways, including volunteering for the PTO and working with the Hilliard Free Summer Lunch Program. While I’m newer to the district than other candidates, I will offer a fresh perspective, free from bias or preconceived ideas. I believe the future of the district lies in creating a culture of inclusion where all students, parents, teachers and families have the opportunity to use their unique voices to create an atmosphere of education, open dialogue and growth.
  • I believe ALL students in our district deserve access to the highest quality education possible.
  • I believe in encouraging the highest possible level of community engagement and listening to the needs and wants of the community.
  • I believe the district has the responsibility to act with the highest level of fiscal responsibility while making decision with tax payer money.
I am running for school board because I have a vested interest in ensuring our schools remain academically excellent and fiscally responsible for years to come for ALL of our students. Hilliard is going through a time of growth and I know that I can help lead this change by being a thoughtful listener and acting for the good of our school community. Being responsible with taxpayer money is essential in creating a school district that works for our community. While our district is currently in a great financial position, growth is coming. It will be crucial for the school board to make smart financial decisions while continuing to provide all students with the high-quality education the HCSD currently provides. With children in this district for many years to come, I am extremely dedicated to our financial future.
I believe ALL students in the Hilliard City School District should receive a quality education where they are valued, accepted and heard regardless of their race, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity, neurodiversity or physical diversity. It is important to prepare all students for their futures, regardless of whether they will be seeking higher education or immediately entering the workforce or military.
I believe the most important characteristic of an elected official is the ability to listen to their constituents.
I believe that critical thinking is the most important trait an effective school board member could have, and I know that I process information in a non-biased way to make decisions. I am an excellent listener and I am never afraid to ask questions when I don’t understand something. I never let hubris or assumptions stand in my way when learning and gathering information. When facing a problem or project, I am always looking to experts for creative solutions.

My experiences as a Public Liaison and Communications Associate have given me over seven years of experience speaking to the public in various settings. Through these positions, I have formed partnerships with community members from varying organizations and businesses and have developed the skills to find common ground.

The core responsibility of the school board is to act in the very best interest of their students at all times to ensure ALL students are receiving the best education possible.
The Giver by Lois Lowry

I read this book at a young age, in school, and it absolutely started a life-long love affair with reading. I had never read anything that made me think long after I closed the pages and I will never forget that experience for the first time.
The role of the school board is the be the voice of the community! The school board should make decisions based on conversations with community members and have open lines of the communication with all members of their communities. The school boards job is to set the vision of the school board, hire and supervise the superintendent and treasurer and set policies for the district.
The school board answers to the community; the voters in the Hilliard City School District are the constituents of the school board.
I believe that all children and teachers deserve to feel safe, welcome and heard in school regardless of their race, religion, gender, gender-identity, sexuality, or neurodiversity. Students and teachers should be able to have discussions about these topics in age-appropriate ways and how it relates to our history, government, current events, and any other lessons these subjects reach, which are numerous.

Schools are simply not only for “reading, writing and arithmetic” as some around the country like to say these days. Schools have to meet children where they are and acknowledge what is happening in the world around them. Denying race discrimination, and other types of discrimination, and how they affected and continue to affect our country and the world is a disservice to our children who are future global leaders.

I will work hard to ensure that all of our diverse students, faculty, staff and community are heard while making decisions at a board level.
Building relationships with the community is absolutely key in running a successful school district that works for the community. The school board has to have successful relationships with city leaders, community organizations and most importantly, the parents of students. I believe that best way to do this is being available for conversations and having open communication.
Yes, I absolutely believe it is important to intentionally recruit diverse staff in order to achieve more diversity among our teaching and administrative staff that reflects our student population. It is entirely possible to "hire the best candidates " while also intentionally recruiting diverse staff to apply for positions at the HCSD. I support the new plan being put in place by The Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion.
It is important to prepare all students for their futures, regardless of whether they will be seeking higher education or immediately entering the workforce or military. I would expand our offerings in tech and trade by increasing community partnerships with local businesses. Every student would see the positive impact of increasing community partnerships regardless of their chosen track after graduation. These experiences will only expand the unparalleled education the HCSD currently offers.
It is no secret the HCSD will be asking tax-payers to fund a school levy during this next board term cycle. The best way to encourage voters to support bond issues and tax levies is to offer clear communication about WHY the district needs to pass a bond/levy and exactly what the funds are being used for. Communication about the current state of the district finances and future projections should be clearly communicated before the announcement of any bond issues/levies. Once a levy is proposed, town halls should be held at every district school allowing parents and community members to ask questions in a small setting with their peers where their questions and concerns are heard. Identifying key influencers in different aspects of the community and educating these individuals about the importance of passing the levy and creating a community advisory board will also be essential.
I believe in listening to experts when it comes to developing policies for safety in our schools . This includes both public health experts and the local police department. As a school board member, I would seek the guidance of these safety experts while making decisions surrounding safety in schools.
I believe mental health in extremely important and we could do better to support students in this area. We need to provide more staff training to help students and staff identify red flags in their students as well as set up better processes for when students need mental health support. We have made improvements as a district in this area but improvements still have to be made. As a society and district we have to work to remove the stigma surrounding mental health so we can move forward with supporting our students, faculty and staff.
Why don't you ever seen elephants hiding in trees?

Because they're so good at it!
I support the current mask mandate. Not only is it necessary to protect our students and staff but it allows students to avoid quarantine to stay in school as long as possible.

Nobody, myself included, wants their children to have to wear masks. I know I speak for many parents when I say that we are all exhausted, burnt out and sad living in this pandemic. But this mask mandate is needed to keep the community safe and to keep our children in school.

One of my greatest desires is that if elected to the school board I will not have to make these tough COVID decisions because the community case numbers will be low enough to rescind these mandates. I want to encourage everyone to get vaccinated if possible so we can protect the vulnerable members of our community and see our children's smiling faces in school again.
I believe that parental involvement is absolutely key in the education of students. Parents are a child's first and most important teacher. Parents should have an open communication with their children's teachers, administrators and the school board. As a school board member, I promise to listen to and respond to parents questions and concerns.
