Sarah Hofmann
Sarah Hofmann was a member of the Vermont Public Utility Commission. Hofmann assumed office in 2015. Hofmann left office in 2021.
Hofmann was appointed to the board by Governor Peter Shumlin (D) in January 2015 for a six-year term beginning in March. Hofmann replaced John Burke, who retired in March 2015 after completing his term.[1][2]
Hofmann had 17 years of experience working for the Vermont Department of Public Service before joining the public service board. At times, her role in the department required her to argue cases before the public service board on the state's behalf.[1]
Upon naming Hofmann to the board, Shumlin stated that her "institutional knowledge, innate fairness and good sense of public engagement will serve the Board very well."[1]
Biography
At the time of her appointment, Hofmann was a lawyer and former Vermont Department of Public Service Deputy Commissioner. She earned her bachelor's degree from Rollins College and graduated from the University of New Hampshire Law School.
Prior to her 2015 appointment to the state public service board, Hofmann served as executive director of the New England Conference of Public Utilities Commissioners.
In her capacity as a former deputy commissioner and public advocate at the department of public service, Hofmann represented Vermont in appeals to the state supreme court and in cases before both the state nuclear regulatory commission and public service board.[1]
