Campaign themes
2015
Martin's website highlighted the following campaign themes:[2]
Strong neighborhoods
- Excerpt: "t’s time to move beyond neighborhoods vs. developers. We can revitalize our neighborhoods and encourage revitalization that matches the rhythm and flow of existing neighborhoods. Neighborhoods and developers can work together to ensure new projects fit the community’s vision, and infrastructure keeps pace with the rapid growth our neighborhoods have been experiencing. Our neighborhoods also need new investments that positively impact quality of life for residents—investments in parks, sidewalks, and overall beautification."
School-centered communities
- Excerpt: "Strong neighborhoods have strong public schools. Parents must always be involved in decision-making when it comes to their child’s education. When every child is able to reach his or her full potential, we all reap the benefits. We need a council member who will fight to fund every penny of the Metro Nashville Public Schools budget and encourage greater community support of our schools to help our resources stretch even further."
Safe, walkable streets
- Excerpt: "Our neighborhoods have a wonderful partnership with the East Police Precinct, and we must do everything we can to ensure our police have the resources they need to fight crime. Our neighborhoods are among the most walkable in Davidson County, but unfortunately, our commercial corridors remain inaccessible to pedestrians. It’s time for our neighborhoods to collaborate with government departments, businesses, and developers to create more walkable commercial corridors – through Dickerson Pike, Gallatin Pike, Main Street, and Trinity Lane – so that our neighbors have access to goods and services within walking distance."
