Sarah Nelson is an advisor to the 501(c)(4) nonprofit Balanced Budget Forever (BBF).[1] Balanced Budget Forever is a group established by John Kasich in late 2014.[7] On its website, BBF says it "supports the passage of state resolutions calling for a constitutional convention the purpose of which is passing a balanced budget amendment."[8]
As a 501(c)(4), BBF can raise unlimited funds but cannot engage in express advocacy. The group may engage in issue advocacy and "can spend unlimited amounts advocating Kasich's positions without disclosing its donors."[7] The Northeast Ohio Media Group reported that Nelson would help Kasich navigate western states on his tour with BBF.[9]
Kasich announced his bid for the presidency on July 21, 2015 and suspended his camapaign on May 4, 2016.[10][11]
