Sarah Smith (Illinois)
Sarah Smith was a judge of the Illinois 3rd Circuit Court. She assumed office in 2015. She left office in 2019.
Smith (Democratic Party) ran for election for judge of the Illinois 5th District Appellate Court. She lost in the general election on November 3, 2020.

Smith was an associate judge of the Third Judicial Circuit Court in Illinois. She was appointed by the judges of the Third Circuit on August 25, 2015, to serve a term that expired in 2019.[1]
Biography
Sarah Smith earned an undergraduate degree from Millikin University in 1998 and a master's degree and a J.D. from Regent University in 2002.[1] She received a master's degree from the U.S. Army War College in 2020. Smith's professional experience includes working for the Madison County State's Attorney's Office in Edwardsville and as a judge of Illinois' 3rd Judicial Circuit of Madison and Bond counties.[2]
Smith served in the U.S. Army and is a Colonel in the Illinois Army National Guard.[2]

Judge Smith was elected in 2018 as a Circuit Court Judge and presides over a civil and criminal post-conviction docket. She serves as a Board Member of the Illinois Judges Association, the Illinois State Bar Association Military Committee as well as many local bar associations, civic and military organizations. She has earned various awards and recognitions for her community service.
Judge Smith is a Colonel, a two-time combat veteran and Bronze Star recipient. She is the highest-ranking Judge Advocate in the Illinois Army National Guard. She was appointed as Illinois first Military Judge and first female Judge for the US Army Guard. Throughout her 25+ years in the military Sarah has served in various positions such as Command Judge Advocate, Senior Defense Counsel, and Chief of Military Justice and Operational Law. She was asked to speak at the United Nations symposium on two occasions regarding her counterinsurgency operations in Afghanistan. She was the legal advisor to the Dual Status Commander during the NATO Summit in 2012 and was invited to speak in front of various foreign dignitaries and ministries of defense on her legal military- Love People More than you Hate their Politics
