I am a small business advocate, owner, and operator. Through my personal and professional experiences, I understand the kitchen table issues that all of us in Northern Virginia and Falls Church face. Grasping upon all aspects of those experiences, I want to come together with Republicans and Democrats alike to solve problems and improve the quality of life for everyone. That means opening our schools, getting people back to work, and strategizing to make sure we are better prepared for these situations in the future. There is a lot of work to be done and I am the person for the job.
  • Small businesses are the backbone to our community. We must get our businesses open and our people back to work.

  • Schools must be open safely five days a week. We have to get children caught up on education from the school they have missed.
  • Everyone should feel safe walking down our streets.
Between school closures and shutdowns, main street businesses have been hurt badly during the pandemic. Even more so, women owned businesses have suffered. Based on a report from the US Chamber of Commerce, less than half of women owned businesses feel good about the financial outlook. As a female business owner myself, I understand these struggles and as a Delegate, want to find better solutions for our businesses.

In the last year, we have seen some radical proposals concerning how we handle policing and public safety. As delegate, I will advocate for better integration between police and our community. Many of the tragedies that we have seen in recent years have happened in areas where police and community do not have a good relationship. By focusing on strengthening the relationship between people and police, we can create safe and equitable communities.
You have to know, like, and trust someone to feel confident doing business with them. I feel the same applies to politics. We get very hung up on party lines and hot button issues but the truth is, you don't know what is around the next corner. Electing someone that you trust to make the right decision because you know and like them will get you a much better result. Do not let someone lead your community that you wouldn't want to do business with.
I truly like people. I want to listen and learn and find ways to solve issues. I come from a place of finding common ground when there are disagreements and then see how we can pivot to team up against a problem as opposed to fighting until one side or another wins. We are all stronger together and I think that ignorance is the true enemy. If we can find ways to learn and grow together, there isn't a problem out there we can't solve!
Though I was barely four years old, the first historical event that I can remember was the Challenger Space Shuttle. I was so excited watching the news with my mother and learning about a teacher, Christina McAuliffe, who would be going into space. For some reason I remember thinking that if a teacher could go to space, that anyone who tried really hard would be able to go one day. We watched all of the lead up and I don't think that a day passed we didn't talk about it. It still brings tears to my eyes remembering my mother explaining to me why she was so sad when we were so excited. She did what moms do and tried to keep the details minimal to guard my feelings, but I knew it was bad. I also remember thinking how everyone I knew was sad about it. It had that unifying property of all of America grieving at once. We don't celebrate and grieve together the way that we did back then.
There is nearly always a Taylor Swift song playing in my head. It definitely changes with my mood, but I am pretty sure she has a song for everything.
I believe it is beneficial for a state legislator to have previous work experience in their community. A knowledge of government and politics as well as concern for your neighbors is far more valuable than previous work in government or politics. There are many ways to get this knowledge such as being involved in policy with your local chamber of commerce, nonprofit organization, or any number of business associations, to name a few.
I believe that relationships are always important no matter the setting, so I certainly feel that relationships with other legislators are important. I feel that it is important to work with people both in your political party and not to come up with solutions for our people as a whole. We have gotten into a place where we don't care if we lose as long as our opponent loses and, in my opinion, that means we don't care that it is leading to our communities losing. We must build relationships and learn to work together. Our people are counting on it.
Why did the scarecrow win an award? Because he was out standing in his field.
We were never meant to be a dictatorship and after a year of pandemic we are all wondering how one person got to make all of the decisions. It is for that reason, I feel that emergency powers should be strictly limited by time, with legislative oversight on whether to continue or discontinue any steps taken to cope with the emergency. State legislature is meant to be a fast moving body who can address concerns from all regions of the state and come up with decisions to care for our people. We must use the state legislature after the immediate emergency time frame to make sure that thoughtful responses covering our entire state are enacted.
