Campaign themes

2016

Rizzuto's campaign website highlighted the following issues:

Public Education

  • As a mother, there is nothing more important to Saritin than maintaining strong and vibrant public schools in our community. Investing in education across the board is a key component of Saritin’s campaign for State Representative. If elected, she is deeply committed to reconfiguring the allocation of Chapter 70 funding in order for us to meet the educational demands of our growing community, improve the curriculum in our public schools and prepare our children for the challenges of a complex, global economy.

Economic Development & Infrastructure

  • With over a decade of experience working with our local business community, Saritin understands the challenges that companies and small businesses face maintaining high-quality job opportunities while also expanding their enterprises. Saritin has worked closely with our local chambers of commerce and the Small Business Administration (SBA) to help strengthen our business community and foster growth. However, attracting new ventures and developing new partnerships that will benefit our community over the medium- and long-term is still a significant obstacle in our area. Saritin is committed to making small businesses a top priority at the State House and working alongside the Executive Office of Housing Economic Development to provide the resources necessary so that our community can achieve continuous growth in the years to come.
  • However, we cannot ignore the fact that adequate transportation is also a key to any successful economy. Saritin has pledged to identify and allocate research funding to help find a permanent and sustainable solution to alleviate congestion along Route 1 and explore new ways for the corridor to provide additional revenue to Saugus. Saritin is proud to call Wakefield her home and will work diligently to improve and revive our downtown and expand opportunities for small businesses. Lastly, transportation, housing and business redevelopment are all a part of the revitalization plans for the waterfront and downtown Lynn. Saritin applauds the incredible effort that has gone into creating this plan and will do everything she can to see that it becomes a reality.

Opioid Addiction and Public Health Investment

  • Our community is at a crossroads. Opioid addiction has become a crisis of epidemic proportions and is a growing threat to our neighborhoods. We need a State Representative that has served on the front lines and battled the debilitating effects of drug addiction side-by-side with the families who have been afflicted.
  • Saritin is familiar with opioid addiction both personally and professionally. In order to meet the challenge of curbing opioid abuse, Saritin firmly believes in requiring drug abuse training on a permanent basis for our first responders. We must also couple that training with education efforts through our public health agencies to help connect individuals to mental health, domestic violence and substance abuse programs. Not only will this help reduce our crime rates, but it will also refocus our efforts on treating this crisis as a public health problem, and not solely as a law enforcement problem.[1]
