I grew up in Kent and am a proud graduate of Kentridge High School. Today, I am raising my four children here, continuing the same community roots that shaped my own life. I hold an MBA in Technology Management from the University of Washington and work in the technology sector, bringing both professional expertise and real-world problem-solving experience to my public service.

For more than 15 years, I have been an active PTA parent and have dedicated myself to improving opportunities for Kent’s students and families. Beyond the schools, I have served on numerous community boards and volunteer organizations, always working to strengthen connections, expand access to services, and support residents across our diverse city. I am honored to serve as Kent’s City Council President and as the first Sikh woman elected to the Council. In this role, I have championed policies to enhance public safety, support small businesses, expand translation and accessibility services, and ensure Kent continues to grow as a strong, welcoming, and inclusive community. My involvement extends beyond the city, as I collaborate regionally with leaders across South King County and at the state level to secure resources and deliver solutions that benefit Kent residents.

As the daughter of immigrants, a professional in technology, a community volunteer, and a mother raising four children in Kent, I bring lived experience and a deep commitment to building a stronger, safer, and more inclusive Kent.
  • I am committed to building a stronger, safer, and more inclusive Kent. As Council President, I have prioritized public safety by supporting our police officers, expanding community partnerships, and working to ensure every resident feels safe in their neighborhoods, schools, and businesses.
  • I bring people together across differences to deliver results. From supporting small businesses to strengthening regional partnerships, I focus on collaboration, accountability, and problem-solving to make government work for all of Kent’s residents.
  • I am focused on improving Kent’s infrastructure and city services to keep pace with growth. This means investing in safe roads, reliable utilities, sustainable development, and accessible city services so that Kent remains a great place to live, work, and raise a famil
I am passionate about strengthening public safety, expanding affordable housing, and supporting small businesses. Every resident deserves to feel safe in their neighborhoods, schools, and workplaces, which is why I prioritize community-focused safety initiatives and resources for our first responders. I believe affordable housing is essential for families, seniors, and working people to remain in Kent as our city grows. I am also deeply committed to supporting small businesses - the backbone of our local economy - by reducing barriers, fostering growth, and ensuring they have the tools to thrive. My focus is on delivering practical solutions that keep Kent safe, affordable, and prosperous for all.
City Council is unique because it is closest to the people. It is where residents’ concerns about public safety, housing, infrastructure, and services are heard most directly. My years of being present at community clean-ups, school PTAs, non profit boards and city events have shown me how essential this connection is to shaping policies that reflect the real needs of our community.
The first historical event I remember was 9/11. I was in English class at Kentridge High School when we heard the news. I will never forget the pin-drop silence in the room and the sense of fear and uncertainty we all felt in that moment.
Integrity, accountability, and a commitment to listening are the most important principles. As someone who has spent over two decades volunteering in Kent-picking up trash, cleaning parks, pulling invasive blackberries, attending community events, and engaging with residents from all backgrounds—I know that leadership begins with showing up and listening. Elected officials must be transparent, responsive, and focused on serving the community above all else.
The core responsibilities are to represent the voices of all Kent residents, make informed policy decisions, ensure responsible use of taxpayer dollars, and provide oversight so that city services meet community needs. For me, that means staying deeply connected to residents-through schools, small businesses, neighborhoods, and cultural events-and bringing those perspectives into every decision I make.
I want to leave a legacy of building a stronger, safer, and more inclusive Kent where every resident feels valued and heard. My hope is to be remembered as a leader who worked tirelessly to strengthen public safety, expand affordable housing, support small businesses, and ensure city services met the needs of our diverse community. Most importantly, I want my legacy to reflect that I showed up consistently-in schools, neighborhoods, clean-ups, and community events-listening to people and turning their voices into real solutions.
My very first job, at almost 15, was in the kitchen of an adult care facility on Benson in Kent, where I worked as a server and dishwasher. The residents were often so kind and warm, many of them feeling almost like grandparents to me. I was young and impressionable, but I truly enjoyed being there and learning from those connections. I stayed in that job for three years, an experience that shaped my appreciation for service, patience, and community.
One of the greatest struggles in my life has been balancing the many roles I hold - raising four children, working in the technology field, volunteering in the community, and serving on City Council. Like many families in Kent, I have had to juggle competing responsibilities and make sacrifices along the way. While it has not always been easy, this struggle has shaped my perspective as a leader and strengthened my commitment to building a city that supports working families, provides opportunity, and values community.
Many people don’t realize that the Council plays a central role in setting the city’s budget and long-term priorities. These decisions determine how resources are invested in public safety, infrastructure, affordable housing, and parks. As Council President, I have seen firsthand how these choices shape the daily lives of our residents.
While prior experience can be helpful, what matters most is a proven record of community service and problem-solving. My experience doesn’t come only from over a decade at City Hall-it comes from being consistently active in the community for over 20 years. Whether volunteering in schools, serving on boards, or engaging residents in conversations at city events, I bring lived experience and trust that is just as important as political experience.
Strong communication, fiscal responsibility, and collaboration across differences are essential. My professional background in technology and my MBA in Technology Management give me expertise in problem-solving and innovation. Combined with my decades of volunteer work in Kent, attending community events, listening to residents and serving as Council President, I bring both the technical skills and the community-rooted perspective needed to serve effectively.
The City Council is closest to the people, making decisions on public safety, housing, infrastructure, and city services that directly impact daily life. Its importance comes from staying connected to the community and ensuring policies reflect the needs of Kent’s diverse residents.
