Satya Rhodes-Conway
Satya Rhodes-Conway is the Mayor of Madison in Wisconsin. She assumed office on April 16, 2019. Her current term ends on April 20, 2027.
Rhodes-Conway ran for re-election for Mayor of Madison in Wisconsin. She won in the general election on April 4, 2023.
Rhodes-Conway served on the Madison City Council from 2007 to 2013.[1]
Rhodes-Conway is affiliated with the Democratic Party.[1]
Biography
Rhodes-Conway received a bachelor's degree in biology from Smith College in 1994 and a master's degree in ecology and evolutionary biology from the University of California-Irvine in 2000. Her career experience includes teaching undergraduate biology and ecology and working for Defenders of Wildlife and the State Environmental Resource Center. She was managing director of the Mayors Innovation Project from 2005 to 2019.[1][2][3]

Events and activity following the death of George Floyd
Rhodes-Conway was mayor of Madison during the weekend of May 29-31, 2020, when events and activity took place in cities across the U.S. following the death of George Floyd. Events in Madison, Wisconsin began on Saturday, May 30, 2020, at the Wisconsin State Capitol. On May 31, Mayor Satya Rhodes-Conway (D) instituted a curfew.[4] Later that day, Gov. Tony Evers (D) confirmed that the Wisconsin National Guard would be deployed to the city following a request from interim police chief Vic Wahl.[5]
