An effort in Madison, Wisconsin, to recall Mayor Satya Rhodes-Conway was initiated in June 2020. Petitioners failed to submit enough signatures to put the recall on the ballot.[1][2][3]
Recall supporters
The recall effort was organized by resident Jon Rygiewicz, who accused Rhodes-Conway of failing to protect business and residents during Madison protests that began in May 2020. Rygiewicz also cited a budget shortfall and a wheel tax as reasons to recall Rhodes-Conway.[2]
Recall opponents
In response to the recall effort, Rhodes-Conway said, "I am focused every minute on doing the job that the people of Madison elected me to do and I am not going to be distracted by a small group of people who want to divide this community."[2]

The number of valid signatures required for a recall election is 25% of the number of persons that voted in the last preceding election for the office of governor within the electoral district of the officer sought to be recalled. Circulation of a recall petition must be completed within 60 days after registration.
Recall organizers filed a statement of intent to recall with the city clerk on July 8, 2020. Petitioners in the recall effort against Satya Rhodes-Conway were required to submit 36,203 valid signatures. Madison City Clerk Maribeth Witzel-Behl announced In September 2020 that 53 signatures had been turned in.[3]
