Save America is a leadership PAC created by President Donald Trump (R) on November 9, 2020, following the 2020 presidential election.[1] Trump's campaign communications director, Tim Murtaugh, said, "The president always planned to do this, win or lose. So he can support candidates and issues he cares about, such as combating voter fraud."[2]

According to the Federal Election Commission, "A leadership PAC is a political committee that is directly or indirectly established, financed, maintained or controlled by a candidate or an individual holding a federal office. The committee is not an authorized committee of the candidate or office holder, and is not affiliated with an authorized committee of a candidate or office holder. Members of Congress and other political leaders often establish these nonconnected committees to support candidates for federal and nonfederal offices."[3]

Background

Federal Election Commission records show Bradley T. Crate listed as the Save America's treasurer. Crate filed the Statement of Organization with the FEC on November 9, 2020.[4] The Wall Street Journal reported that "The PAC allows Mr. Trump to continue to raise money from his campaign's extensive list of supporters. The PAC could accept donations of up to $5,000 per year, a markedly lower cap than what the Trump campaign and Republican National Committee have been able to accept."[5]

Leadership

Crate was listed as treasurer and custodian of records in a January 2025 Statement of Organization filed with the FEC.[6]

According to ABC in early 2024:[11]

As Trump's legal battles ramped up in the second half of last year, so did his legal spending -- with his political action committees reporting a total of $34 million in legal expenditures in the second half of last year compared to roughly $26 million in the first half, according to the disclosures.

Trump's leadership PAC, Save America, continued to foot much of Trump's legal bills in the second half of last year, spending nearly $26 million on legal fees and other related expenses, while only raising $6 million.[12]
