I am a mom, former Teach for America corps member, licensed educator, and an advocate for public education.
  • Financial responsibility is a top priority for me. I am committed to ensuring the district manages taxpayer funds responsibly and transparently. I will ensure that the district maintains a well-balanced and sensible budget, and that updates on how funds are spent are communicated to the public in a timely and accessible manner.
  • Safety is a top priority for every family who sends their child to school. I am committed to ensuring that our schools meet the highest safety standards and are prepared for every possible scenario. This means constantly evaluating our security and communication systems, and researching and implementing the latest in safety technology.
  • We know that the primary purpose of school is to teach students the essential skills of reading, writing, and math along with other academic subjects. According to the most recent data, only about 20-30% of middle and high schoolers in ECISD are on grade level for reading and math. I am committed to tackling academic gaps in our students' learning. This means ensuring that curriculum materials are rigorous, yet accessible, and that instructional practices are designed and implemented to produce positive results.
I am passionate about public education, child and family wellbeing, healthcare access, environmental stewardship, and disability awareness.
I believe that a School Board Trustee should be involved and active in their community. They should visit campuses in their district periodically throughout the year to connect with staff and support wherever possible. They should occasionally attend PTA meetings and listen to family members' thoughts and concerns. A Trustee should also be accessible and easily reachable on social media, phone, email, and in-person. Furthermore, a Trustee should always ask questions and seek to understand, and they should share that knowledge and understanding with their constituents.
When I was 14, I worked for a teen magazine called New Youth Connections writing op-eds and news articles.
The primary job of a school board member is to work with key stakeholders at the district, local, state, and federal levels to provide our students and families with the best educational opportunities possible. Maintaining the district's budget, evaluating the Superintendent, determining instructional materials, and setting district policies must all be done with input from students, staff, families, and community members.
