Scott Allen Kreider
Scott Kreider is a former Republican councilman for District 23 of the Indianapolis City Council in Indiana. He served from 2016 to 2019. He announced his resignation from the position on October 17, 2018.
In his resignation letter, Kreider said he was resigning because his “current professional endeavors no longer enable me to diligently and zealously advocate for the citizens of this great city and county as I believe the people deserve. It has recently become apparent that my current professional endeavors will require ever-increasing attention, which will impact my availability to serve—as has been my privilege.”[1]
Biography
Kreider earned a B.A. in political science from Indiana State University in 1998, going on to receive his J.D. from the Indiana University School of Law in 2001. He has worked as an attorney, with professional experience that includes the following:
- 2010-Present: Civil litigator and transactions attorney, Alerding Castor Hewitt, LLP
- 2008-2009: Law clerk, U.S. District Court Judge William T. Lawrence
- 2006-2008: Law clerk, U.S. District Court Judge Larry J. McKinney
- 2007-2008: Adjunct professor, Indiana University School of Law
- 2004-2006: Associate, Hannon Hutton & Associates
- 2001-2004: Deputy attorney general, Office of the Indiana Attorney General[2]
Elections
2015
The city of Indianapolis, Indiana, held elections for mayor and city council on November 3, 2015. A partisan primary election took place on May 5, 2015. The filing deadline for major party candidates who wished to run in this election was February 6, 2015. The filing deadline for independent or minor party candidates was July 15, 2015.[3] Twenty-five city council seats were up for election. Indianapolis's four at-large seats were not up for election, because those seats were scheduled to expire at the end of 2015.[4]
In District 23, Scott Allen Kreider (R) defeated Douglas McNaughton (Libertarian) in the general election. No Democratic candidates filed for this seat. Incumbent Jefferson Shreve (R) did not run for re-election.[5]
