Scott Balaich
Scott Balaich was a 2014 Republican candidate for District 17 of the Utah House of Representatives.[1]
Campaign themes
2014
Balaich's website highlighted the following campaign themes:[2]
Budgets
- Excerpt: "Between 1990 and 2009 the state's total budget after adjusting for inflation grew 120%. Without the inflation adjustment the growth was 261%. By comparison, Utah's population only grew 62% over the same period and median household income grew only 17%. I believe these numbers demonstrate that our past state legislatures have been willing to grow the size of government well in excess of our real needs."
Limited Government
- Excerpt: "Therefore, we should limit whenever possible the expansion of current programs and the addition of new government programs. In addition, cutting or reducing programs should never be off the table."
Taxes
- Excerpt: "My goal in this area is to work to reduce spending, lower taxes and decrease regulation which will allow the private sector to create jobs and to naturally grow our economy."
Education
- Excerpt: "We need to stop this practice and allow local schools, teachers and parents the right to develop solutions that can have real impact with lower costs. I will also promote legislation that better supports parents that choose to home school or send their children to private schools. Choice and competition will ultimately improve education and lower costs."
Your Land
- Excerpt: "As your State Representative, I will support reasonable efforts of State and Federal lawmakers to take ownership and control of our sovereign lands and resources. We need only look to North Dakota as an example to see what can happen when a state controls its natural resources. Their unemployment is the lowest in the nation and they have more funds available for education. This is a fight worth waging."
