I am a Christ-follower above all else, called to love God and love people. I’ve lived in St Cloud for nearly 10 years. I have an amazing wife and a wonderful daughter. I graduated from Bethel College (now Bethel University) with a Business degree in Finance & Accounting. I didn’t always aspire to run for City Council, I’m just a normal guy who loves the outdoors. I'd rather be in the woods or out on the lake. However, I can’t stomach the thought of waking up in the future, possibly not recognizing the city, knowing I hadn’t tried to help.

I love serving others, whether on missions trips, mowing a neighbor’s yard, helping people move, etc. I would much rather serve than be served, it’s how I was raised. I embrace the opportunity to SERVE YOU as a member of the City Council.

Freedom isn’t free, a steep price has been paid in blood by true heroes over the years. This is one reason why our veterans will ALWAYS come before anyone who is in our city/country illegally. Supporting our freedoms is critical. I will always support every individuals’ freedom to worship, or not worship, however they choose. But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord. (Joshua 24:15). I stand behind freedom of speech, regardless if I agree or disagree with what is being said.

We were given two swords to wield in battle and we better know how to use them! The first is the Word of God, the second is the Constitution!
  • Protecting: FAMILY. The safety of our families & community is CRITICAL. A safe community is a strong community, and I am committed to enhancing public safety measures across our city. We have an excellent police force and other emergency services. I’ll support sound and results oriented funding for these departments, including additional hiring as needed to keep us safe. I would also support initiatives that foster strong relationships between law enforcement and residents, creating an environment where everyone feels heard, secure and supported. I support the 2nd Amendment and believe that responsible gun ownership can go a long way to deter crime as well. A safe community is the necessary first step in a great community!
  • Protecting: HOME. Life is difficult and a vast number of conditions can threaten our desired stability. Individuals & businesses need to want to call St. Cloud home. For individuals, we need to seek the most stable & secure housing that is available and suitable within one’s life circumstances. For businesses, we need to be welcoming and let them know we are here to support, but mainly want the role of government to be SMALL. Let businesses run their businesses as they see fit, with the city being as hands off as possible.

We need to take care of our current residents before looking to bring in others.

I believe by having a community with strong roots, we’ll be eager to plant our flag and call this city our HOME for years to come.
  • Protecting: WALLET. Everybody is hurting right now! We’ve all been forced to make sacrifices, and I’ll make sure the city acts the same way. I’ll work to limit government spending and spend what we do in a wiser way. I am committed to practical budgeting, transparent financial practices and responsible allocation of resources. If we spend better, we can lower taxes for our hard-working, tax-paying base. I’ve worked in Finance over 20 years and want to bring the same sensible monetary principles to the Council and city. My aim is to maintain a balanced budget that supports essential services while minimizing the tax burden. Bottom line, this is YOUR money and I will steward it wisely!
I am passionate about making sure that our freedoms are never infringed upon. The Constitution cannot only be applied when it fits our purpose, it must ALWAYS be followed. Not diluted or modified either. Government is supposed to answer to THE PEOPLE, not the other way around.

I am for smaller government and am Pro-Business.

My approach to leadership is grounded in listening to your concerns, understanding your needs and working tirelessly to address them. I believe in open communication, active community involvement and collaborative problem-solving.

Together, we can create a city where every individual has the opportunity to thrive, where families feel safe, and where fiscal responsibility paves the way for a brighter future.
Jesus Christ. I always strive to be more Christ-like. Most people will agree that Jesus was a great person, even if they don't accept him as the Messiah and the Son of God sent to save the entire world from sin. He was loving, patient, wise, kind, understanding, etc. He was perfect, so perfection is not attainable by us, but we can STRIVE for it.

As far as humans, I look up to both my father and mother. I sure tested their patience when I was young, and likely during my teen years as well. But I always know what was expected of me, and the consequences if I disobeyed. Firm expectations are important, as well as affirmation when successful and disciple (in love) when necessary. I always knew and was able to feel their love.
Strength, honesty and integrity are MUST HAVE qualities for ALL elected officials.

Strength to stand for what is RIGHT, not just what is popular or convenient. With strength you will feel that extra weight that standing firm will bring about, but you can withstand the pressure and not crumble. You won't get stressed out and every time you do what is right it is like adding fuel to the fire and that will empower you and add to your existing strength. Strength fuels more strength.

Honesty is critical as well. To be able to trust that what a person says is true and they're not trying to pull one over on you. Then you can listen to what they say and make a decision vs. having to decide if you believe what they are saying before making your decision. With honesty, I am continually praying that any darkness will ALWAYS be exposed by light.

Finally, integrity is absolutely necessary. Will someone do what is right regardless of if others are watching of not? Doing the right thing for the right reason, even behind closed doors. Somebody with integrity will also be authentic, humble and they'll give credit where credit is due.

These are NOT subjective, either you have them or you don't! If you are an elected official, we can hope and pray that you do. It is important to be lifting up our elected officials in prayer. Prayer is powerful and whether we agree with them fully or not, we still need to be praying for our elected officials.
Like I explained before (as necessary qualities for officeholders) I have strength, honesty & integrity.

I didn't dive into it before, but I will certainly bring wisdom and common sense to the Council as well.
My very 1st job was delivering newspapers in my hometown. I had it for 3 or 4 years, until I was able to drive and get a job at the sporting goods store in the mall (in the larger town down the road from mine.)

The paper route taught me responsibility, as well as the importance of time-management. It was a weekly paper, so they'd be dropped off at my house EARLY Sunday morning. If I wanted to watch the Vikings game on time vs. record it (via VHS, we didn't have DVR back then in the early 90s), I'd have to get up early also and prepare all of the paperwork, either rubber band them, or bag them if it was wet or winter. I would try to get half done before church, then the 2nd half after church, then race home to watch the game. I also learned to value MY time, and sometimes I would pay my older brother to driver me (rather than me walking or biking) and strike some bargains with my parents to come additional jobs around home if they'd drive me. I was paid PER PAPER that I delivered, so I was always looking for the most efficient ways that I could complete the job, but also still maintaining the quality that was required.
The Bible. It has the answers for EVERYTHING!

Aside from the Bible, because that's not really a fair fight (being the best-selling book of all time and its not even close, also being a collection of books) I'd say the Vince Flynn books with Mitch Rapp as central character were my favorites. I would look forward to a new release and would stay up and read late at night. They were intriguing and full of action, which was right up my alley. There was a strong central character who knew what he believed in and would do anything to protect those he loved (often Country.) I'd usually finish them within the 1st week, then have to wait a long time again for the next one. Vince was also a Minnesota native. I was sad when he passed away.
I think it would be awesome to be Superman. He has the full gamut of superpowers. Flying, strength, speed, x-ray vision, super hearing, etc. I think flying would be amazing!

I'm sure the answer here is to say all of the good that you'd do if you had _____ superpowers. Of course that would be great, but also cliche and lame. Hopefully everything else I've said would lead you to your own decisions as to how I'd use superpowers (for my own benefit or for that of others.) I just think it'd be amazing to have the ability to do all of those things!!
I have been whistling Old MacDonald Had a Farm (the 1st several lines) the last several days while working around the house. Its funny because I don't recall hearing it or HOW in the world it got into my mind.
Oh boy, we'll have to settle with my favorite joke appropriate for here!

A man has a sign in his year that says "FOR SALE- Talking Dog. $10." A man stops by his house and knocks on the door. The homeowner answers and the man asks him, "Do you really have a talking dog?" "Sure do," replies the homeowner.

"I don't believe you," says the man. The homeowner has heard this before, after all a talking dog is abnormal, so he just shrugs and says, "Well, come and see for yourself, he's in the backyard."

He leads him through the house and into the backyard and there gazing at the newspaper is the dog! The homeowner says that he'll leave him alone with the dog and that he'll come back in a while to check on them.

The man walks up to the dog and says, "Hello, my name is Bob. What are you doing?"

The dog looks up and says, "Well, I'm reading, as you can clearly see. I'm just checking on current events, as well investigating the financial section so I can make wise decisions concerning my portfolio. You see, after serving as the lead police dog for several years, and launching what we know today as the K9 program, I was called to Hollywood to star in and ultimately consult for a number of box office hits. I have jumped out of airplanes, met every United States President as long as I've been alive, been featured on THREE different Wheaties boxes. I have had a good life. But a few poor investments left me where I am now and I'm looking to recover so I can go back to the life I was accustomed to."

The man is amazed and goes into the house to talk to the homeowner. He tells him that he'll buy the dog. He says, "Whats the catch? Why is it only $10."

"Because he's a liar," says the homeowner. "He's never been out of the back yard."
It is funny that is even a question that needs to be asked. Government is supposed to be THE PEOPLE. So this is really asking if you ought to be transparent and accountable to yourself.

The people should not fear the government, the government should fear the people. If the government is failing the people, they should be replaced. Government should never have so much power as to put freedoms of the people in jeopardy.

So, that being said, financial transparency and government accountability are both absolutely necessary. Remember that it is YOUR money. The financials should be above reproach. I mean with accuracy and be able to be FULLY verified by anybody who would want to. I am not talking about if you don't agree with a line-item of the budget, or some of the spending. That is why we have elections, so you can elect people to represent you. Any fraud or intentional misappropriation of funds should be dealt with severely, as the crime is really against all of the hard-working people who paid taxes.

As far as the accountability, it is the governments role to support the people, NOT the other way around. If they refuse to be accountable and stand by their decisions, then you just have that much more work to do next time they are up for re-election to ensure that they are NOT elected again and to install people who will be accountable to the people.
