Campaign themes
2016
Celello's campaign website highlighted the following issues:[1]
| “ | Improving Economy:
I will focus on promoting our resources, especially our workforce to bring new businesses to our district and the expansion of those currently located within our district. I will be a strong advocate for our Technical Educational centers, which will strengthen our building trades. Education: A strong public school educational system is key to the future of our State. I will fight to ensure that our schools have the necessary funding to enable our students to be able to succeed following high school. Whether it is continuing on to college, a trade school or directly into the workforce. As a former board member of the Iron Mountain Public Schools Board of Education, I believe strong schools promote strong communities. Taxes: I will work to spend our tax dollars wisely. In the eight years I have been Sheriff, I have been responsible for a budget of nearly 3 million dollars. I have had to separate wants from needs and prioritize the needs in order to keep within my budget. This is a fluid process and priorities can and must change. How our tax dollars are spent will be a major focus of mine. Public Safety: I have seen a lot of changes in our society during my 30 years in law enforcement. We need to have adequate Police, Fire and EMS in order to ensure public safety. Our communities have seen an increase in drug use and abuse. This issue needs to be addressed first and foremost by recognizing the causes, educating of the public, prevention and lastly through incarceration. The more effort we put into the first three, the less need there will be for the fourth. Second Amendment: The Office of Sheriff is a Constitutional Office. I have spent 30 years supporting and defending our Constitution and I will continue to do so. I am Pro-Second Amendment.[2] |
