My family and I have lived in San Diego East County since 1991. My wife, Deborah, and I have been married for 35 years and have raised two wonderful children here. With 32 years of experience teaching mathematics to high school and college students, I am ready to bring my dedication to education to the Grossmont Union High School District. I am committed to leveraging my knowledge of educational institutions to promote a brighter future for our students.
  • Public schools—education without agendas. In today’s climate, cultural issues pull people to the left and right, leaving students caught in the middle. This divisive environment overshadows the mission to provide a safe, neutral learning space. We must encourage critical thinking and respectful discussions, fostering transparency and engaging parents to create an inclusive atmosphere. My goal is to ensure a balanced curriculum that prepares students for the future, free from external pressures. Let’s make education a place where all students can thrive.
  • Math competency is vital for our students’ success in college and vocational paths. Unfortunately, 50% of 11th graders in our district have not met math standards, which can delay their future goals. If elected, I will prioritize math competency by researching successful schools and implementing proven strategies, enhancing tutoring resources, and partnering with local colleges and businesses to support all students, whether they choose college or technical paths.
  • Safety for students, teachers, and staff is paramount. As safety concerns evolve with changing influences, I will be vigilant in addressing these issues and ensuring we have effective plans to protect everyone on our campuses. For instance, currently, four of our district high schools share just two safety resource officers. If elected, I will work immediately to ensure that every campus has its own dedicated safety resource officer.
I am passionate about our community and school district responding to the issue of sex trafficking. It’s a horrifying reality that cannot be ignored, especially since it’s happening at our schools. We must raise awareness, provide education on prevention, and ensure that resources are available for those in need. By fostering partnerships with local organizations and law enforcement, we can create a safer environment and support our students in making informed choices. It’s crucial that we take a stand against this issue to protect our children and empower them to thrive.
When I was 12 had a few jobs working on my own as a paper boy back when people got these things called news papers and I also mowed lawns. My first job working as an employee started when I was 15 and a half working at Friendly's Ice Cream in Ohio which was a cross between a Denny's and a specialty Ice Cream Shop. It was a great experience where I learned to server others and work hard with a team.
There are THREE kinds of mathematicians, those who can count and those who can't.
It emphasizes excellent learning practices by recognizing that students are multifaceted individuals with diverse backgrounds, emotions, and needs. I believe that a stable learning environment free from agendas and sound curriculum, combined with best teaching practices, empowers students to develop critical thinking, problem-solving skills, and a lifelong appreciation for learning.
