I'm a husband and father, a longtime Baltimore City resident who loves the city and finally got involved to see what I could do to stop what I see as the city's "managed decline"..

I am a businessman, a broker of commercial and personal insurance products. Also a computer programmer. I solve problems.

  • Baltimore City is the state of Maryland's back yard. People may not realize it yet, but what is happening in our cities will spread to the counties. I'm focused on ways to get the city healthy again. Government will play a vital part, if its functions are competently performed. Otherwise, the government becomes part of the problem. And we need broader community involvement. Our people are going to be the real engine of change.
  • United we stand, divided we fall. The government's duty is to protect our rights to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. I will work to return the ideal of our country to the melting pot, where we share a common culture and celebrate individual cultural traditions. Together, we are enriched. Divided, many become impoverished while a few benefit.
  • First, transparency, then accountability. Nothing will change until we pull back the curtain and let the sun shine in on matters of public record. I will support measures to increase transparency. I will gladly call out practices that violate what used to be a norm - "Avoid even the appearance of impropriety". That guidance now seems to be honored more in the breach than the observance.
Good governance - increased transparency. Equal justice under the law.

Protection of civil liberties - follow our state and federal constitutions. Reduce the abuses of power. We need to clean things up and restore faith in our government, institutions, and public servants. We need to turn around the relationship between the police department and our residents. We need to understand how difficult the job of policing is while at the same time holding our officers accountable.

Public safety - if our police can not or will not enforce the laws, how will people be safe? How can Baltimore City thrive as one of the murder capitals of the world? What damage is being done to our tourism industry, not to mention local businesses when county residents are afraid to visit?

Education - like many of the seemingly intractable problems facing Baltimore, it's complicated! But when you are in a ditch and want to get out, stop digging. I'd try real alternatives to what is being offered now. Set the charter schools free. What can the religious schools offer? We are promoting students out of our system who are not prepared. It is an injustice that must be addressed.

Health - Are we more healthy today than when back when I was born in 1958? Modern medicine is miraculous when applied properly (speaking as a layman, of course). But there are systemic issues contributing to overall disease in our communities. If fixing these problems is a priority, I don't see it.
