Hansen ran for election in the 2012 election for Oregon Senate District 25. Hansen was unopposed in the May 15 Republican primary and was defeated by incumbent Laurie Monnes Anderson (D) in the general election, which took place on November 6, 2012.[1][2][3]

Hansen was endorsed by several groups and organizations, including The Gresham Outlook (a local newspaper), the NFIB, the Oregon Small Business Association, and the AG PAC.[4]
