Campaign themes

2016

The following issues were listed on Meisterlin's campaign website. For a full list of campaign themes, click here.

  • Second Amendment: I strongly support the 2nd Amendment right of citizens to bear arms. Certain individuals/organizations currently seem to maintain that either (1) the average American citizen is not intelligent or responsible enough to own firearms or (2) the bad apples in society are such that all citizens should be prevented from having firearms, unless the government pre-approves that person. In other words, only decision-makers inside Government get to decide who is legally allowed to own a gun. This point of view is unconstitutional.
  • Abortion: Abortion is a very charged issue - as it should be - involving conflicts in fundamental rights. There is the right to life of children, and, according to our Supreme Court, when that right arises. There is the right of individuals to control their own bodies. There is the People's right to a limited government that does not improperly interfere. And there is the Supremacy Clause of the Constitution, itself. I personally oppose abortions, except in cases of rape, incest or a medical risk of life.
  • God: Putting "GOD" back in America... We are a Nation founded by Christians who deeply believed in the right to religious freedom. Our Founding Fathers believed in religious tolerance for the Nation, not in favoring Atheism or any other faith. I very much share their belief in religious tolerance, however, I strongly object to favoritism being given to Atheism or any other non-Christian beliefs. To quote John Adams: “Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other.”
  • English: I support English being the official national language of the USA. America has long been considered the melting pot of cultures. I believe it is a mistake for America to change its own culture to "accommodate" others, a practice I believe results in the ultimate division of cultures within our Country, and therefore discrimination rather than assimilation. Also of note is the added cost to our Country for this accommodation.
