Scott R. Jensen is a former Rhode Island Director of Labor. He began serving in that position in February 2015.[1] He left office on February 22, 2021.[2]

Prior to becoming director of labor for the state of Rhode Island, Jensen worked in the Maryland Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation for eight years. Toward the end of his time there, he served as deputy secretary from 2012 to 2014. Following former Maryland Secretary of Labor, Licensing and Regulation Alexander Sanchez's departure to become chief of staff to Baltimore's mayor in May 2012, Jensen briefly served as the interim secretary. He remained in this position until October 8, 2012, when Leonard Howie officially took over.[3]

Before his service in two state labor departments, Jensen served for eight years on the city council of Easton, Maryland.[1]

In addition to his public sector experience, Jensen briefly served as a professor of philosophy at Salisbury State University in Maryland.[1]

Political career

Rhode Island Director of Labor (2015-2021)

Jensen was appointed director of labor by Rhode Island Governor Gina Raimondo and unanimously confirmed by the Rhode Island State Senate on February 11, 2015.[1] He left office on February 22, 2021.[2]

Interim Maryland Secretary of Labor, Licensing and Regulation (2012)

As deputy secretary of labor, licensing and regulation, Jensen was elevated to the position of interim secretary after the resignation of Secretary Alexander Sanchez in May 2012. Jensen remained in this post until Sanchez's permanent replacement, Leonard Howie, took over in October 2012. Upon Howie's appointment, Jensen returned to his post as deputy secretary for the department and remained there until 2014.[3]
