April 06, 2022: Seven percent (7%) of voters discuss politics with people outside of their immediate family every day or nearly every day. A Scott Rasmussen national survey found that ten times as many—71%—talk politics once a week or less. In between are 17% who discuss politics "most days."

Twenty-eight percent (28%) of Democrats talk politics most days or every day. So do 27% of Republicans. However, just 18% of independents do the same.

The highest level of political discussion is found among government workers, 43% of whom discuss politics most days or every day. Thirty-nine percent (39%) of those with a postgraduate degree discuss politics that often.

Methodology

The survey of 1,200 registered voters was conducted online by Scott Rasmussen on March 24-27, 2022. Fieldwork for the survey was conducted by RMG Research, Inc. Certain quotas were applied, and the sample was lightly weighted by geography, gender, age, race, education, internet usage, and political party to reasonably reflect the nation’s population of registered voters. Other variables were reviewed to ensure that the final sample is representative of that population.

The margin of sampling error for the full sample is +/- 2.8 percentage points.

Note: Neither Scott Rasmussen, ScottRasmussen.com, nor RMG Research, Inc. have any affiliation with Rasmussen Reports. While Scott Rasmussen founded that firm, he left nearly a decade ago and has had no involvement since that time.
