April 14, 2023: Forty-three percent (43%) of voters are opposed to the creation of a government run tax preparation service. A Scott Rasmussen national survey found that 35% favor its creation and 22% are unsure.
The survey also found that 58% of voters would continue to file their taxes in the way they do now, even if such a service was created. Just 24% say they would use the government run system. Voters are divided as to whether the IRS would be fair (45%) or unfair (42%) in preparing tax returns under such a system.
Methodology
The survey of 1,000 registered voters was conducted online by Scott Rasmussen on March 28-29, 2023. Field work for the survey was conducted by RMG Research, Inc. Certain quotas were applied, and the sample was lightly weighted by geography, gender, age, race, education, internet usage, and political party to reasonably reflect the nation’s population of registered voters. Other variables were reviewed to ensure that the final sample is representative of that population.
The margin of sampling error for the full sample is +/- 3.1 percentage points.
