April 17, 2024: Twenty-two percent (22%) of voters would not feel even somewhat safe going for a walk outside at night in their own neighborhoods. A Scott Rasmussen national survey conducted by RMG Research found that about half (52%) would feel somewhat safe, and only a quarter (25%) would feel very safe.

The survey also found that two-thirds (66%) believe that increasing the number of police officers in their communities would make them feel more comfortable. Seven percent (7%) said decreasing the number of police officers would increase their comfort levels.

Methodology

The survey of 1,000 registered voters was conducted online by Scott Rasmussen on April 3-4, 2024. Field work for the survey was conducted by RMG Research, Inc. Certain quotas were applied, and the sample was lightly weighted by geography, gender, age, race, education, internet usage, and political party to reasonably reflect the nation’s population of registered voters. Other variables were reviewed to ensure that the final sample is representative of that population. The margin of sampling error for the full sample is +/- 3.1 percentage points.
