April 27, 2021: Forty-four percent (44%) of voters nationwide say that companies in their area are more likely to be hiring rather than laying people off. A Scott Rasmussen national survey found that 17% think layoffs are more common where they live. Twenty-two percent (22%) say companies where they live are neither hiring nor laying workers off, and 18% are not sure.[1]

There is little difference on this question between urban, suburban, and rural voters.[1]

Voters over 35 are more upbeat in their assessment than younger voters.[1]

Forty-nine percent (49%) of Democrats see businesses in their area hiring. So do 47% of Republicans. However, only 35% of independent voters agree.[1]

The survey also found that 28% report that their own finances are getting better, while 21% say worse.[2]
