The Number of the Day columns published on Ballotpedia reflect the views of the author.
April 27, 2023: Seventy-eight percent (78%) of voters have had to cut back on their household spending over the past couple of years. A Scott Rasmussen national survey found that 21% have not.
The survey also found that 92% believe it is important to reduce government spending and balance the federal budget, including 62% who believe it is Very Important. Sixty-seven (67%) percent favor reducing the growth of federal spending to 1% a year for 10 years, and 64% support requiring every federal agency to reduce its total payroll by 1% a year for 10 years.
Methodology
The survey of 1,000 registered voters was conducted online by Scott Rasmussen on April 13-14, 2023. Field work for the survey was conducted by RMG Research, Inc. Certain quotas were applied, and the sample was lightly weighted by geography, gender, age, race, education, internet usage, and political party to reasonably reflect the nation’s population of registered voters. Other variables were reviewed to ensure that the final sample is representative of that population.
The margin of sampling error for the full sample is +/- 3.1 percentage points.
