April 29, 2025: Eighty years ago today, on April 29, 1945, the 42nd and 45th Infantry Divisions and the 20th Armored Division of the U.S. Army arrived at Dachau and liberated approximately 32,000 prisoners. As the soldiers got closer, they saw over 30 railroad cars that had been packed with dead bodies that were brought to the camp. Soon after, in the early part of May, the surviving prisoners who had been sent on a death march would also be liberated.[1]
