April 4, 2024: Forty-five percent (45%) of voters say their local high schools do a good (36%) or excellent (9%) job teaching students to read, write, and possess other basic skills needed to get a good job and function as an adult in society. A Scott Rasmussen national survey conducted by RMG Research found that 49% say their local schools do a fair (35%) or poor (14%) job.
The survey also found that just 28% believe that everyone who graduates from their local high schools has these skills. Earlier research found that voters believe every high school graduate should have such skills.
Methodology
The survey of 1,000 registered voters was conducted online by Scott Rasmussen on March 25-26, 2024. Field work for the survey was conducted by RMG Research, Inc. Certain quotas were applied, and the sample was lightly weighted by geography, gender, age, race, education, internet usage, and political party to reasonably reflect the nation’s population of registered voters. Other variables were reviewed to ensure that the final sample is representative of that population. The margin of sampling error for the full sample is +/- 3.1 percentage points.
