April 9, 2026: One hundred and sixty years ago, on April 9, 1866, Ulysses S. Grant, serving as Lieutenant General of the U.S. Army, was pulled over for speeding in his horse buggy. While riding his buggy in Washington D.C., two officers pulled Grant over for going too fast. Though he offered to pay the fine, Grant decided to ride away from the scene. Eventually he would appear in court to pay the fine.[1]
