August 10, 2022: 31% of Americans trust the federal government to do the right thing all (8%) or most (31%) of the time. A Scott Rasmussen national survey found that 39% think the federal government will do the right thing only some of the time, and 28% think they will rarely or never.

The survey also found that, when it comes to establishing major regulations, 52% of Americans trust voters and their elected representatives more than government agencies and policy experts. Just 24% trust agencies and experts more.

Methodology

The survey of 1,200 registered voters was conducted online by Scott Rasmussen on July 26-28, 2022. Fieldwork for the survey was conducted by RMG Research, Inc. Certain quotas were applied, and the sample was lightly weighted by geography, gender, age, race, education, internet usage, and political party to reasonably reflect the nation’s population of registered voters. Other variables were reviewed to ensure that the final sample is representative of that population.

The margin of sampling error for the full sample is +/- 2.8 percentage points.
