August 14, 2024: Eighty-nine years ago (89), President Franklin D. Roosevelt signed into law the Social Security Act. This law created provisions for general welfare and created a program that would pay money to workers who had retired at the age of 65 or older. This act was intended to help address economic concerns of the elderly by allowing them to contribute into their retirement by paying into it while they worked.[1]
