Scott Rasmussen's Number of the Day for August 19, 2024

August 19, 2024: Since 2023, eight states have implemented statewide policies about cell phone usage in K-12 schools. Of these eight states, six have a Republican majority, one has a Democratic majority, and one is divided. The first state to adopt one of these laws was Florida. The call for this ban stems from debates about how to handle cell phones in the classroom. Some argue that cell phones are good for students to have in order for them to contact parents during the day. Others, including district leaders, educators, and other lawmakers have argued that cell phone usage can have a negative impact on students’ ability to learn and their mental health.
