August 2, 2023: On August 2, 1923, the 29th Vice President of the United States, Calvin Coolidge, ascended to the office of the President of the United States after President Warren Harding died of a heart attack, becoming the 30th U.S. President.[1]
Coolidge was the sixth of eight Vice Presidents of the United States to serve under a president who died while in office.[1]
In the 1924 presidential election, Coolidge would win 382 of the then 531 electoral college votes, carrying 35 of the then 48 states. Coolidge became the second vice president to become president and then go on to win an election for a full term.[2]
Coolidge would veto 50 bills during his presidency, and worked hard throughout his tenure to cut maximum income taxes down to 25%.[3]
