August 22, 2018: Three states currently have a governor from one political party and a veto-proof state legislature from the other party: Maryland, Massachusetts, and North Carolina.
Ballotpedia notes that up to seven more states may find themselves in this situation following the 2018 elections. Possible additions to the list might include Alaska, Illinois, Montana, Nevada, Ohio, Vermont, and Wisconsin.
