August 29, 2024: Since August 20, 136 state legislative incumbents have been defeated in primaries this year. Of these 136 state legislative incumbents, four were legislative leaders.
In Wisconsin, four House incumbents, all of whom were Republicans, lost in the primaries. This is the largest number of incumbent defeats since 2010. As it stands, Republican incumbents have lost at a higher rate than Democrats. One hundred and seven (107) of the 2,248 Republican incumbents who ran lost to their challengers, while 29 of the 1,723 Democrat incumbents lost their re-election bids.
