August 31, 2022: Forty-five percent (45%) of voters believe that increasing government spending and taxes by several hundred billion dollars, as set out in the Inflation Reduction Act, will actually make inflation worse. A Scott Rasmussen national survey found that 23% believe it will reduce inflation, 10% think it will have no impact, and 21% are not sure.

The survey also found that 43% of voters believe that spending on clean energy projects will increase the price of gas. Thirty percent (30%) think it will reduce the price of gas, and 26% are not sure.

Methodology

The survey of 1,200 registered voters was conducted online by Scott Rasmussen on August 16-17, 2022. Fieldwork for the survey was conducted by RMG Research, Inc. Certain quotas were applied, and the sample was lightly weighted by geography, gender, age, race, education, internet usage, and political party to reasonably reflect the nation’s population of registered voters. Other variables were reviewed to ensure that the final sample is representative of that population.

The margin of sampling error for the full sample is +/- 2.8 percentage points.
