August 8, 2022: Fifty-five percent (55%) of Americans say that, given the state of the economy, it would be better to cut government spending and taxes. A Scott Rasmussen national survey found that 23% say it would be better to increase government spending and taxes, and 22% are not sure.

The survey also found that 44% believe the Manchin plan to increase taxes by $739 billion and government spending by $433 billion will make inflation worse. Just 17% believe it will reduce inflation, 12% say it will have no impact, and 27% are not sure.

Methodology

The survey of 1,200 registered voters was conducted online by Scott Rasmussen on July 30-31, 2022. Fieldwork for the survey was conducted by RMG Research, Inc. Certain quotas were applied, and the sample was lightly weighted by geography, gender, age, race, education, internet usage, and political party to reasonably reflect the nation’s population of registered voters. Other variables were reviewed to ensure that the final sample is representative of that population.

The margin of sampling error for the full sample is +/- 2.8 percentage points.
