August 9, 2022: Sixty-four percent (64%) of Americans believe there is a “deep state” of career government employees who pursue their own interests and agendas. A Scott Rasmussen national survey found that 16% believe there is not, and 20% are not sure.

The survey also found that 48% believe, if a president tries to implement a policy with which a senior government official disagrees, the official will try to obstruct the policy. 28% believe the official would implement the policy, and 24% are not sure.

Methodology

The survey of 1,200 registered voters was conducted online by Scott Rasmussen on July 26-28, 2022. Fieldwork for the survey was conducted by RMG Research, Inc. Certain quotas were applied, and the sample was lightly weighted by geography, gender, age, race, education, internet usage, and political party to reasonably reflect the nation’s population of registered voters. Other variables were reviewed to ensure that the final sample is representative of that population.

The margin of sampling error for the full sample is +/- 2.8 percentage points.
