December 10, 2024: Thirty-seven percent (37%) of voters say it would be very (17%) or somewhat (20%) good for the U.S. economy if the United States imposed steep tariffs on Mexico and Canada. A Napolitan News Service national survey conducted by RMG Research found that 46% say it would be somewhat (19%) or very (27%) bad. Just 6% say it would be neither

The survey also found that 20% say it would be very (8%) or somewhat (12%) good for the economies of Mexico and Canada. Fifty-seven percent (57%) say it would be somewhat (30%) or very (27%) bad. Just 9% say it would be neither.

Methodology

The survey of 1,000 registered voters was conducted online by Scott Rasmussen on December 2-3, 2024. Fieldwork for the survey was conducted by RMG Research, Inc. Certain quotas were applied, and the sample was lightly weighted by geography, gender, age, race, education, internet usage, and political party to reasonably reflect the nation’s population of registered voters. Other variables were reviewed to ensure that the final sample is representative of that population. The margin of sampling error for the full sample is +/- 3.1 percentage points.

Scott Rasmussen is the president of RMG Research, Inc.
